The Silicon Valley International Film Festival (SVIFF) was birthed for talented filmmakers who long to bring their vision to life but have difficulty finding the financing to bring a film to life. It is no secret that here in Silicon Valley, the average salary for someone in tech is six figures. Not only that but there is a vibrant start up culture in the Bay Area and leading the way are tech entrepreneurs who end up making millions when they sell their company to bigger tech corporations. As a result, those who work in tech have more disposable income than the average person. The team here at SVIFF will choose a slate of films from the films submitted for consideration. We will then host this festival over a few days at tech sites where people who work in tech will be invited to watch your films and interact with our filmmakers. It is our hope that through our festival, tech professionals and independent filmmakers will network to collaborate together on future film projects.
The founder of SVIFF came up with this idea because she has worked in the tech industry for the past decade and is an independent filmmaker. As she traveled the world promoting her own films, she frequently had conversations about the inability to make a film because of lack of funds with other filmmakers she met at various film festivals. She saw a problem and this is her way of proactively solving that problem. The selection process at SVIFF is very competitive but we enjoy seeing filmmakers grow in their craft. We do not give waivers but the only time we send waiver codes are to filmmakers who keep submitting their work through either FilmFreeway or Withoutabox even though a past project got rejected. We believe in the words of Winston Churchill when he said, “Never, never, never give up” and like to reward diligent filmmakers who are continuously creating.
*All emails asking for a waiver code will be deleted*
Accepted filmmakers are treated to ONE full access pass and unforgettable networking opportunities so please have your pitch and script ready for your next project. Tech employees at each site will be invited to take a break from work to engage in a speed dating session with our filmmakers. During this time, filmmakers who have been accepted into the festival will have the opportunity to pitch their next project.
Special film events will introduce audiences to filmmakers, speed-dating sessions between filmmakers and tech professionals, pitch sessions for each filmmaker to spark conversation and expose the creative workings of film-making. It is our goal here at SVIFF to connect filmmakers with individuals who work in tech to bridge the gap and build lasting professional relationships that birth some amazing stories in a creative way.
